Each season Girls on the Run Los Angeles County identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 8-15 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

Head Coach Overview

The Head Coach is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position entails approximately four hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A heart for girls in 3rd-8th grade
  • Join us if you are 18+ years old

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Prepare, organize and supervise weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other coaches to deliver our fun curriculum
  • Facilitate communication with parents/guardians of program participants
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K
  • Plan and coordinate your team’s end of season party

Assistant Coach Overview

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach at a Girls on the Run program site while serving as a role model and mentor for program participants. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A heart for girls in 3rd-8th grade
  • Join us if you're 18+ years old

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K

Junior Coach Overview

The Junior Coach is a volunteer position for high school students to assist the Head and Assistant Coaches at a Girls on the Run program site. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Have a heart for girls in 3rd-8th grade.
  • Junior Coach can join us at 16+ years old

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down of games and lessons
  • Provide one-on-one attention to program participants
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Lead an activity with assistance and supervision of the Head Coach if desired
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K

What are the key dates for the season?

Spring Season Applications:  Open Now
Spring Coach Conference: Sat, Feb 11th
Spring Season Runs: Feb 27 – May 26
Spring Season 5K: Saturday, May 20th

Can I choose the site where I coach?

Of course!  We will work with all of our volunteer coaches to find a team that works best for them.

Do I need to be a runner or have mentoring experience?

Not a runner = Not a problem!  No experience = Perfect chance to learn with us!
